I hate dieting. Being hungry is horrible and makes me even more grumpy than normal.  The fact that I feel the need to diet also isn't a lot of fun, but the plain truth of the matter is I am definitely chubby around the midriff and given that I am at risk of knee and ankle problems extra wieght is a /bad/ thing.

Most of the day is ok, but between 5 and dinner time is currently horrible.  I've cut out morning snack without really having a problem and swapped fizzy pop for squash and water fairly easily.  Lunch is also easy enough to keep to a light bite and no sweet treats.  But I need to find a healthy afternoon snack or I am going to fail completely and utterly.

It should be pointed out that I am not after comments telling me I look lovely the way I am and that I don't need to diet.  This is lovely for my ego but not terribly helpful in that it helps me justify giving up.  If you would like to help me please just put up with me over the next few months and don't let me go overboard on treats.  Also, not pushing me to eat sugar would be a great help and I will love you all for it.

Incase anyone is wondering why I have morning and afternoon snacks I am ingrained into the nursery lifestyle for eating, which is bad because it involves a large amount of snacks!

Carrot sticks. Celery. Cherry tomatoes. Add low fat hummus if you like. You can slice and dice before you leave for work. Apples with peanut butter can also work. You want something sweet, I'd recommend satsumas. They take time to peel and for me part of snacking can be the ritual of food. Peeling fruit takes time.
You don't have to quit snacking, just make the snacks healthy. You could even put yourself together a salad for afternoon snack time. Dress with balsamic vinegar instead of a dressing. Hardly any calories.
Chin up sweetheart. Making healthy choices and you don't necessarily have to be hungry to diet.
This is supposed to be helpful, so if I come across as condescending, I apologise. I know you probably know this stuff already, but honestly being hungry will make you break your diet and make you miserable.

My go-to item is an apple, as that tends to last me long enough with the way I eat them to make me pay attention to the fact that I've eaten something.

You've got all my sympathy hon; mine starts tomorrow.
