New Foods

So, at the start of this year I started trying to fit one new thing to be cooked a week into my weekly meal plan.  (Yes I have a weekly meal plan, I like lists.  Stop judging me! :P)

This has on the whole been a success so far.  I'm eyeing up new recipes, I have tried a lot of food I never thought I'd eat (I haven't liked all of it but that's cool) and I am more open to new tastes as a whole.  Even better I now have a much wider range of 'core' recipes to call on so I don't get so bored with my cookery.

Below are some of my new fave recipes

  • I have found a curry I like (I think it's a fairly wimpy curry as curries but but I don't care!)

  • I can make naan bread, of a sort, really easily :D

  • We've expanded our vegetarian foods with this Green Garden Pie (I adore it but Colin does not)

  • I like blueberries now, largely due to this muffin recipe (please note I will eat blueberries not in a muffin as well :P)

  • Colin loves this Braised Pork (I enjoy it, but I don't use even a fraction of the ammount of ginger the recipe calls for)

  • [livejournal.com profile] appyamy set me on this oven fried chicken which is gorgeous

  • [livejournal.com profile] pujaemuss set me on this weight watchers recipe for lemon chicken, though as we aren't on strict diets I use chicken thighs with the skin on

  • This Fruit Soda Bread is really tasty, though next time I make it I shall halve the recipe

  • [livejournal.com profile] xanthipe suggested Bacon and Potato Chowder which is amazing!  (you do need to read the comments to get all the ingredient amounts though, d'oh!)

  • Finally, for those of you who are fans of my chocolate brownie cake, this loaf cake is even better!  Warning, it does affect me like all chocolate seems to though :P

Tomorrow we are trying out tandoori lamb skewers (recipe card from Sainsburys, one of the few that reads like an actually recipe rather than an assembly line of Sainsburys premade goods...)  and as the year goes on I'm hoping to incorporate some of the garden prduce I am hoping to acquire into more new and delicious things to eat!

And so, my weekly shopping went from 'stuff for lunch, stuff for dinner etc' to 'CHOCOLATE!!!!!!'. And the eggs I've currently got are duck eggs...

It's a good job chocolate is a fruit and therefore good for me!

If you make it, let me know how yours turns out? Mine is seriously tasty but lacking structural integrity...
